Reunion Tower

During your introduction to Dallas, be sure not to miss out on the Reunion Tower. The Reunion Tower, contrary to what it seems, is not a structure built solely for the purpose of hosting reunions. It is, in fact, a 560 foot tall observation tower, named the Reunion Tower simply because it is located in downtown Dallas' Reunion district.

The Reunion Tower was an isolated, free-standing architectural structure (built by Welton Becket & Associates) till the year 2000, when an addition to the Hyatt Regency Dallas was constructed around it. The Tower itself is owned by Hyatt Regency and is part of their Hotel complex. The structure - which ties with the Cityplace Center as the 15th tallest in Dallas - remains one of the city's most prominent landmarks.

People who have been Dallas traveling in the past two years may have missed out on the opportunity to explore this architectural masterpiece, as it was closed for renovations from November 2007 to 9th February 2009.

The Reunion Tower's primary attractions include the fine-dining restaurant "Five Sixty" on the top floor, and the view from the bottom deck. Though the latter is still closed for renovation as of June 2009, it should become accessible to the public within the next few months.

The tower itself is picturesque, especially at night when 260 lightbulbs blink in sequenced patterns, generated by computers and dominating the skyline around them. The dome of the tower has a three-tiered structure, with the lowest level devoted to the observation area, the second level being the revolving restaurant, and the highest level - the Dome - being an entertainment lounge.

If you plan to travel in Dallas, Texas, do save some room in your itinerary for a relaxing evening on top of the world, at Dallas' Reunion Tower.
