The purpose was to restore the natural beauty and greenery of the area that was destroyed by the abandoned tracks. The group took the help from civic authorities, architects and the corporate. The work started in 2000 and took seven long years to complete the project.
In the recent years, the trail has become one of the most sought-after tourist places in Dallas and a great place to pursue some of the most interesting sporting activities and even for people who wish to explore the place on foot. There are many restaurants and cafeterias, delis, bike and auto repair shops, gas stations, general stores and other amenities along the trail. There are also benches at regular intervals and you get to see the beautiful lush greenery along the track.
However, it is advisable to carry your own food and drinks, especially of you are traveling in the afternoon as most of these shops are closed during this time. They also remain close during the weekend. It is important to carry a lot of water as well.
