The Dallas Zoo is an old zoo located in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas. It was firstly open to the public in 1888. With 6,800 animals on 95 acres, the Dallas Zoo counts as the largest zoo in Texas. Database Manager
This is an opening from the Dallas Zoo Management, Inc. which exists to manage the Zoo and Aquarium and promote understanding of biological diversity of plants and animals. The Database Manager should be proactive and able to work on weekends and even holidays.
Job duties:
Responsibilities of the Database Manager include but are not limited to
- Solve various hardware and software problems for other staffs on Personal Computer as well as Macintosh workstations
- Help other staffs with problems on NEC Univerge Sv8300 VoIP Telephony System and train them in phone operations
- Configure individual phone instruments and maintain NEC UM8500 Call Processing & Messaging System
- Install hardware components at POS workstations
- Teach Guest Services staff and accounting staff to use Gateway POS system and access information from Gateway database respectively
- Manage and maintain Gateway POS database and help accounting staff create reports based on Gateway SQL database
- Oversee MicroMain database and solve related problems
- Support the development of ZIMS web
- Train other staff and the clerical in Microsoft Office modules.
Qualifications:
This position requires
- An Associate's degree or 4 years of related experience in database management, workstation and server based IT support
- Basic knowledge of server architecture, Microsoft directory structure and operating system
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office modules including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Access
- Excellent skills for database management, analysis and problem resolution
- Advanced knowledge of phone systems, POS systems, SQL, FoxPro and Access database
- Ability to manage time and handle several tasks and projects at the same time.
- Willingness to conduct train programs
- Previous POS operation and experience with telephone and POS system would be more preferable

Irrigation Technician
It's also an opening from the Dallas Zoo Management, Inc. Successful candidates should have a certificate of Irrigation. The Irrigation Technician would be mainly responsible for irrigation of the Zoo as well as the Children's Aquarium.

- Maintain and repair irrigation systems and solve related problems
- Install new irrigations systems
- Oversee mister systems and repair them when needed
- Manage inventory of shops
- Keep records as required and create reports regularly
Qualifications:
This position requires
- Related certification of Licensed Irrigation Technician
- A minimum half a year experience in irrigation
- Great communication skills for speaking and writing
- A valid driver's license
- Willingness of working on weekends, holidays or at nights when needed
- Successful completion of drug screening, tobacco test and background check

Membership Representative
This is a part-time job suitable for those who are willing to work on weekends and occasional weekdays. Besides, qualified applicants should be able to work irregular hours as needed. Local and regional travel is a must. A B.A. or B.S. degree would be preferable.
Job duties:
Responsibilities of the Database Manager include but are not limited to
- Serve guests in the membership booth as an ambassador of the Zoo
- Answer questions and solve problems for current and prospective DZS members
- Welcome members of the Zoo at front entrance
- Sell DZS membership to customers and explain how the membership works for the patron and the Zoo
- Inform the Zoo's Membership Specialist or Director of Development of the entrance of VIP or upper level members
- Active membership benefits immediately upon purchasing
- Update information of the Gateway Galaxy ticketing system for new or renewed members
- Participate in community or corporate events to promote the Zoo as well as its membership
- Get membership packets ready for mailing
- Perform daily balance and report as required
- Assist other sales staffs or with member events when necessary
Qualifications:
This position requires
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Ability to speak both English and Spanish
- Strong problem resolution and customer service skills
- Experience in handling large amounts of cash

Reservation Assistant
It's a part-time job from the Zoo's Education Department. Candidates need to deal with multi tasks and handle various fee-based programs. Plus, cooperating with other staffs and assisting with program marketing are a must.
Job duties:
Responsibilities of the Database Manager include but are not limited to
- Provide outstanding service to the Zoo's customers via email, call or in person
- Handle fee based programs, including camps, overnights, night hikes, Scout badge programs or preschool, of the Zoo and Children's Aquarium
- Help customers make reservation and send confirmation materials in time
- Deal with customer's payment and invoice and keep all types of monies safe
- Maintain instructor calendars and client database
- Create visitation, program and booking reports weekly and monthly
- Track and confirm numbers of program participants
- Take care of facilities
Qualifications:
This position requires
- A minimum of two years of experience in administration and customer service
- A valid driver's license
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Great verbal and written English skills
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office
- Ability to handle multiple tasks
- Willingness to work 25 - 32 hours per week and work on weekends or at nights according to the season
